Looking for a fun course to refresh your English? Whether it’s for your holiday, your job, or just to keep your brain linguistically fit, come and join us. We’ll be using Spotlight magazine (one issue per semester), along with other reading materials (e.g. short stories, newspaper articles). Although the emphasis is on fluency, grammar weakness will be addressed as needed. All this in a relaxed and positive learning environment!
Our main reading material is "Spotlight". This magazine provides a rich blend of topics which will enable you to practise and improve your speaking skills both in everyday life and in business situations, expand and enrich your vocabulary and, when necessary, smooth out those recurring grammatical problems. And all this in a relaxed and fun classroom environment.
We read novels by authors from the English-speaking world and thus try to comprehend texts. By talking about the plot of a novel we attempt to speak English freely without neglecting grammar aspects. Grammar topics are dealt with depending on the level of the knowledge of the participants. We cover the whole range of grammar topics.
We discuss topics of interest to the group, often drawing from articles from "Spotlight" magazine and other sources.
Join us for some lively discussion on various engaging topics. Reading material is based on Spotlight magazine, newspaper articles and one-page short stories. After the lesson, you’ll be wondering how the time went by so quickly!
As we continue our world cruise, some of the places we’ll be visiting are the Seychelles, Madagascar and South Africa. We’ll talk about highlights of our excursions, fascinating facts of the country or listen to a presentation about a current topic. As always, we’ll review a bit of grammar. Come and join our group of friendly world travellers.
In this course you will have the chance to speak freely and without any pressure. We will talk about all sorts of interesting subjects and help will be given with grammar where necessary.

Do you like reading in English? Are you interested in classical as well as contemporary literature? Would you like to get more out of the book you are currently reading? Can you imagine discussing your impressions with others who have also read this book? Do you wish to exercise and improve your speaking skills? If two or more of the above apply, then why not sign up for an adventure into the world of fiction? We buy our own books and meet once in month. Book to be read for the first session: Benjamin Myers – The Offing.
Intrigue, vanity, compassion, epiphany, fear, and wonder, all compressed into the space of a few pages. In cultivating such moods and states, flash fiction is as equally brilliant for what it includes in print as for what it leaves to our imaginations! Each class, we will discuss one of the twentieth-century stories from the „DTV zweisprachig“ collection "22 kurze Kurzgeschichten", beginning with John Updike‘s "The Abandoned Swimming Pool" (please read the story before our first Zoom meeting) and continuing in subsequent classes with selections by Graham Greene, James Joyce, and Ernest Hemingway, among others. For your reading ease, each story can be read in the original English with a German translation on each facing page. Nach der Anmeldung erhalten Sie rechtzeitig den nötigen Link, mit dem Sie sich bequem von jedem Ort aus auf einem entsprechenden Gerät einloggen können.
